Life in our Cattery
We have discovered that our Norwegians hang out together, this is referred to their "colony". When the kittens are about eight weeks old they move from the "Queens" area to the upper level of our home and get to inter react with their dad and uncles. Dugan our only breeding male at this time is a wonderful Daddy. He cleans the babies, makes sure they eat and keeps them from harm. He keeps them close together and makes sure none of our other cats causes any harm to them. Even now with Ferdi at seven months and Andy at five and half months he watches out for them. If the kittens are off sleeping and he has not seen them lately he will go through the house calling for them. When they show up he calms right down. Many times we have watched Dugan step back from his food dish and let the kittens eat. Even Butter our altered male watches out for the kittens and plays with them. I have not seen any aggression of our males against the kittens.
We have rescued cats in our home aging from fifteen years to three years of age. The Norwegians inter react with them very well. The Norwegians don't mind our dogs and Andy thinks our Malamute is the greatest play toy we have in the house. Certainly do not need a television when you have these magnificent purr boxes in the house. They have personality plus.
I have read that the Norwegians are not really lap kitties, however both Andy and Ferdi love to sit on our laps and cuddle and purr. If they are not on the lap they are close by. At night Ferdi will come and crawl under the blankets and cuddle till he gets too warm then he drops to the floor and is right beside the bed. Have to watch out when I get up or I would have a squished kitty. All of the Queens get up and ask for "hugs". We have found the Norwegians to be very affectionate and love to be with people. We have found the Norwegians to be the cleanest of cats.
Our cats are not in cages, they live in our home as part of our family. In fact our cats are our family but don't have a social security number. They have a registration number instead.
